FAQs

Let Us Answer Your Heating & Cooling Questions

  • How Long Do HVAC Systems Last?

A well-maintained system can last anywhere from 12-15 years. This is an average, and there are many variables.

  • Is a More Expensive Air Filter My Best Choice for Healthy Indoor Air?

A more expensive 1” thick filter is usually more restrictive on your HVAC system. Anything labeled anti-allergen is going to be more taxing on your heating and cooling equipment. Here at Sta So Cool HVAC, we offer many options to improve indoor air quality without the expense of your HVAC equipment.

  • How Often Should I Have My Furnace and A.C. Maintained?

All equipment manufacturers recommend at least yearly service on your HVAC equipment. Not only can this prevent costly and untimely breakdowns, but it also ensures the safety and efficiency of your equipment. Also, most manufacturers want proof of maintenance to honor their warranties.

  • What Does SEER and AFUE Mean?

SEER is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. The higher the SEER Rating, the more efficient an air conditioner is. AFUE is Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. Like SEER, the higher the AFUE, the more money you save on your heating bill.

  • How Often Should I Replace My Air Filter?

A 1” air filter should be replaced monthly. Sta So Cool HVAC offers filtration options that can last up to a year before changing the filter. A few factors go into how often to change a media filter. Call or email us with any questions you may have.

  • Why Is My Top Floor So Much Warmer/Colder Than My Main Floor?

It is common to see a 5-8 degree difference in temperature between floors in some homes. This can be as simple as a vent being closed or as complex as the home’s ducting not being adequate for your comfort. We offer solutions to remedy this issue.

  • Why Are My Heating and Cooling Bills So High?

An older HVAC system will not be nearly as efficient as a newer model. Your home’s windows, doors, roof, and insulation also play a big part in keeping your heating and cooling bills lower.

  • What Is a Mini-Split?

Also known as a ductless system, a mini-split is just that. A total heating and cooling system without the ductwork. This system is often an excellent option in homes where some rooms or floors just can’t seem to get warm or cool.

  • My Furnace/Air Conditioner Isn’t Running. Is It Really Worth Replacing It?

If your system is over ten years old and repair costs equal 20 % or more of the cost of a new system, a replacement will be the more economical option now and in the future. As parts become harder to source and equipment prices continue to rise, replacement becomes a sensible option.

  • What Is IAQ?

IAQ stands for Indoor Air Quality. Here at Sta So Cool HVAC, we offer several state-of-the-art, proven technologies that will help keep your indoor air at home cleaner so you can breathe easier. Ask us which option would work best for your home.

  • Do I Need a Humidifier?

Not only does a humidifier help keep you comfortable, but it also helps with static shocks, nose bleeds, and other nuisances that come with dry winter air. Also, humidified air can help you save money by setting your thermostat lower. Humid air feels warmer than dry air!

  • Why Is the Refrigerant for My Old Air Conditioner So Expensive?

As of 2020, R-22 was no longer being produced or imported. A refrigerant leak can turn into a costly repair if you have an R22 Air Conditioner or heat pump.

  • I See My Neighbors Wrap or Cover Their Air Conditioner in the Winter or Fall. Is This a Good Idea?

While it might seem like a good idea, in reality, you are making a perfect home for mice and other pests that will try to seek shelter in a covered air conditioner. Also, any moisture that gets trapped in a covered unit will start to rust any steel items, such as the condenser fan. Your A.C. was designed to be outdoors. Any leaves or debris from fall and winter will be removed during Air Conditioner Maintenance.

  • Who Makes the Best HVAC Equipment?

In our opinion, as well as several independent reviews websites, Rheem is the top manufacturer. With over 100 years of reliability and innovation, Rheem is the top choice for your home heating and cooling needs.
